Ophisaurus gracillisWe found one specimen of this incredible animal on 25/05/10 crossing a trail surrounded by disturbed grassland. It was out, link foraging in the afternoon, while there was a light drizzle. This species has a very striking pattern and colouration. The bright blue bands end shortly after the vent, allowing predators to focus on the uniformly coloured tail, protecting the animal from permanent and fatal damage.

The specimen we found was a female.
