This expedition was conducted with two principal objectives in mind. First, our study was to document the diversity of reptiles and amphibians and create a photographic inventory of the herpeto-fauna of the region in the hope of showcasing its conservation value. Secondly, we put to test a new model of responsible tourism wherein participants help fund the expedition and in return get to be part of an important scientific study, thereby adding value to their travel and at the same time helping further conservation through scientific exploration.
The tourism aspect wasn’t as successful as we would have liked. We were able to bring in only two participants as opposed to our required number of six. However, we have now set a precedent and have material with which we can bring in more people for future visits to Talle or other similar locations in Arunachal Pradesh.
